Roving Reporters CC v Botany Bay
Botany Obey RR’s
On a bright but cold summers day RR’s travelled to Botany Bay one of the most beautiful grounds in Hertfordshire for there first ever visit. RR’s Kent born skipper Rogie negotiated the toss where RR’s elected to bat first against a young 10 man Botany Bay side. RR’s opening pair of Rymer and Rowlands made a conservative start to the innings keeping the bowlers at bay. With Rymer set on 18 he played an expansive drive straight down mid offs throat for the catch only to be shelled. How expensive was that to be? Rowlands feel in the 11th over wit the score on 44 and this brought the ‘Earl Grey’ to the wicket (Stuart Wiggins) who got of the mark with an elegant cover drive for four. As the partnership began to build and the opening bowlers came out of the attack runs became easier to find. Tony was clean bowled for 47 with the score at 112. This brought the enthusiastic Pete Jenkins to the crease who batted like a man possessed and tried to accelerate RR’s run rate with his new game of hit and run. With the ‘Badger’ blowing from PJ’s new fitness regime he attempted to hit the ball over the top and was caught meaning that he had to back to his sett with the score on 150. Skipper Rogie come and went for 3, Rocky was plumb LBW for a golden duck and Paul Smith was clean bowled for 1. Jake made a small contribution to the score with 13* meaning that PJ was the last man out for a fine 32. RR’s closed on 188 for 7 off there 40 overs proving to be a good score on a damp wicket.
After a fine tea and Rogie’s belly now looking bigger that Rosie O’Donnell’s RR’s opened with Del Boy and Simmons SNR. With runs hard to come by for the Botany Bay top order Craig and Del started to bang the nails in the coffin from the off. Change in bowlers meant that Scooby and Pikey bowled with great accuracy and frustrated the Bay’s batsman. So after 28 overs the score was on 76 with 3 wickets down. The run rate was now up to nearly 10 an over and it was time to bring on the pace man Rogie and the pie man Rock. Botany Bay started to tuck into the bowling like a cheap chinese buffet. Rogie was extremely expensive going for 45 off his 6 overs. Rock was also expensive but got reward for varying his bowling styles and end up with 4 for 36 his best RR’s bowling figures.
So overall a straightforward win for RR’s who travel to Flamstead next week looking to maintain their good form.
