UPDATE - Return to Cricket

09 Jul 2020

Hello,

Further to the earlier communication below, please see the updated ECB guidance on the attached.  For simplicity we have summarised and would assume the process of participating in a game to entail the following:

  • Before leaving home, do a self-assessment and check yourself for symptoms of Covid 19. If in the slightest doubt of being 100% symptom free – STAY AT HOME.
  • Bring your own source of hand sanitizer.
  • Upon arrival you will be required to share contact details (for contact tracing purposes).
  • Arrive in whites ready to play, with no use of changing room facilities before, during or after.
  • Bring your own refreshments, l there will be no tea or drink provided (we may be able to purchase drinks from the bar, but this is not certain)
  • Hand sanitizer to be used at all breaks and / or every 6 overs in a planned hygiene break.
  • No sweat or saliva is to be applied to the ball at any time.
  • Players to remain socially distanced at all times wicketkeepers & slip fielders at 1m+. Social distancing must always be maintained including during celebrations and breaks.
  • Bowlers should not hand anything to the umpire.
  • The ball must be immediately returned to the bowler, not passed between players.
  • Batters are to run in distinct running lines to ensure they are not within 2m of the bowler or other batter. Lanes to be marked on the square.
  • Limit the sharing of equipment, but if you do share, practise strict hand hygiene.
  • In addition to ECB guidance, clubs hosting us may stipulate additional conditions and precautions to protect their players/members and opposition, which we will need to adhere as guests at their ground. We will advise these ahead of matches.

Please now contact Dave or Nick directly to detail your availability for the forth coming Sundays. We anticipate starting at Hoddesdon on the 19th July.

Cheers

Nick & Dave

Hello

As you will no doubt be aware, the government has given the green light for recreational cricket to return (albeit with some restrictions) from as early as next Sunday 12th July.

Further information regarding the detail of these restrictions is expected in the next couple of days, but ahead of that,  we as a club need to ascertain our position.

In order to do this, we need to group our current playing members into 3 groups - a) happy to play, b) tentatively happy to play depending on restrictions or c) not going to play at this time.

It is important to point out there is absolutely no expectation or pressure from the club that people play cricket. There is still a significant risk of virus transmission and everyone needs to be confident to do what they feel is right for them and their family. All we are doing at this stage is trying to understand the appetite of our members to play. Jake is contacting our July fixture hosts to see their appetite to play, and we need to be ready to say if we can or cannot fulfil any potential invitation to go and play.

If there are any concerns you'd like discussed, please don't hesitate to contact myself, Dave, Jake, Chris or Roger - we will be only too happy to chat things through with you.

Please could you urgently respond to either Nick or Dave to indicate whether you consider yourself in group a/b/c. Once further guidance is issued by the ECB, we will again be in touch to explain that detail.

If we do have enough members wanting to play and some opposition who want to host us, we will update everyone and explain the next steps to declaring availability on a game by game basis, once we are clear on the aforementioned restrictions.

Thanks in advance, keep well and stay safe,

Nick Anson (Team Secretary)
