Fantasy Cricket Double Gameweek

25 Aug 2023

As we head into another weekend of cricket, we take a look back at the double Gameweek and how it has impacted the Fantasy Cricket League. Reporters travelled to Cockfosters on the Friday for their yearly cricket week and although rain delayed the start, the skipper opted to bat first. A decision which looked like it could be costly when 3 wickets fell for just 13 runs, leaving the team 13 for 3 off 7.3 overs. A 4th wicket partnership between J. Pike and P. Lewis for 84 stabilised the team before P. Lewis (32) took a risky run and found him self falling short, dispute his best efforts. J. Pike was dismissed for 58 allowing the reporters tail to wag strong with contribution from the Simmo Brothers; T. Simmons falling short of his 50 (46) and D. Simmons (32) the club finished on a defendable 208 runs after their 40 overs.

Reporters took to the field and opening bowlers D. Weist and C. Thorpe combined for a 16 over spell of pure pace, mopping up 5 wickets between them – 4 of these taken home on the funbus. A standout 6 over spell from young gun A. Daly saw his 6 overs go for just 21 runs and picking up 1 wicket, rewarding his Dad’s fantasy team for 20 points. A super catch from J. Knappett stopped him finishing the game with a negative point total and the side secured a 56 run win.

The double header took the club to a new fixture in Hockerill on Sunday following the withdrawal of Chipperfield. The side opted to field first and a strong start from the club saw early wickets taken. D. Simmons opening the bowling and took 2 wickets for just 9 runs in his 6 overs, also picking up 30 bonus points for 3 maidens. Wickets spread across the team, including a personal best bowling from N. Anson of 4.3 overs for 3 wickets and 25 runs, meant the club restricted the new opposition to 142 points. N. Anson left the field as a new allrounder and 40 points under his belt.

Reporters batted well and steady partnerships saw the team chase down the score in just 31 overs and 6 wickets down. J. Perrin added to his 2 catches in the field with a decent 20 runs, giving “guest” a final score of 30 points. D. Simmons added to his bowling figures and racked up a score of 20, meaning he finished the game with another score of 80 points.

With just 6 games to go in the season, the table now see’s Dyslexia Untied (1969) take a small 20 point gap at the top, overtaking Big Boy Jones (1949). Thopie’s Slags has jumped up to third with 1896 points. Down the bottom end of the table a massive jump for the new revitalised L B W’s has meant the team are finally off the bottom of the table and have climbed to the dizzy heights of 27th, with Rogie’s Rovers dropping to the bottom of the league.

D. Simmons now tops the points table with 688 points and is over 100 points clear of second place A. Shazad on 552. D. Simmons also tops the Points Per Game table, racking up an average of 49.14 points from his 14 fantasy fixtures and B. Candy follows closely behind on 48.17 points per game. Reporters travel to a bank holiday Monday fixture against Knebworth for one of the last few games remaining.
