25 Years Playing Cockfosters Cricket Club

This year marked the 25th occasion which Roving Reporters met Cockfosters during cricket week. The game looked to be dampened by the weather with a forecast of non stop rain from 11am, the game looked in doubt. When blue sky's where over head at the start of play it came to a surprise to the players. Cockfosters started and got to 65 for 2 at an early lunch due to rain. After a lovely lunch the restart saw Cockfosters lose a quick wicket and left for 86 for 3 after 32 overs. At the end of a 55 over bowling spell by Roving Reporters, Cockfosters declaring on 209 for 6, after a late flourish by the Cockfosters batsmen especially R Wells, who finished on 24 not out.

A quick turn around saw RR's get 18 after 9 overs without the loss of a wicket before a heavy rain shower hit looking like it would bring the whole game to a final finish. With an early tea and the quick work of both teams with the cover meant that the black cloud past leaving a very wet and soggy pitch. After 30minutes of hard work by Cockfosters ground staff the match got back under-way with a limit of 30 more overs to be bowled at RR's. Paul Lewis was then stumped in the 16th over on 32 finishing an opening partnership of 72. Dave Rock entered and put on a partnership of 20 before (like previous weeks of Stuart Wiggins) was dismissed for just 2. The team then struggled to add to the total and slumped to 122 for 9 off of 35 overs, meaning that RR's had to survive the final 4 overs not to lose the game. Craig and Jonathan where able to see off the Cockfosters bowling attack bringing the game to a close as a draw.

A Special Thanks has to go to the Cockfosters Team of Dinner ladies, Ground staff, Bar staff and players for making the 25th game not to be a wash out. At lunch club president presented Cockfosters with a plaque (see above) and a team photo was taken at the end to mark the 25th anniversary of the clubs meeting. Other special thanks go to Martin Dyer who donated £75 to the game, Dave Simmons for scoring all day and everyone for taking part and the spectators who came along and fought the cold and wet afternoon to watch and support the team. We look forward to the next 25years against the club.

Many Thanks
