The Yanks Return

31 Aug 2010

Sunday the 29th Against Chartridge ... Featuring the Americans: A Bitici and T Simmons

Sundays fixture against Chartridge was organised mid week, and saw the return of Tom Simmons, and also debut games for newcomers Steven Griffith's and Phil Davenport.

The game had been predicted to be weather affected and, after 10 overs, as forecast, a huge down poor of rain and strong winds was seen.  Roving Reporters, who had won the toss and chosen to bat, had to come off the field to what looked like the end of the game. Almost as soon as the black clouds had appeared over the playing field, they disappeared, to be met with bright blue sky's. The bitterly cold wind was still around however, and affecting the warmth of the travelling spectators. Roving Reporters returned to the field after a 30 minute gap to resume the 40 over match, but this time on the artificial wicket at the edge of the square. The opening partnership of Craig and JJ put on 56 before Craig was dismissed trying to 'loop' over mid wicket. Tom Rowland entered and hit a quick 38 off 36 balls including one 6 which landed in the next field. Tom Rowlands and J Jenkins then fell within two overs leaving J Pike and P Davenport to place a target of 179 for just the loss of 3 wickets after 40 overs.

Roving Reporters went out to bowl and got off to a flying start, taking the first wicket with only 1 on the board for the home team. Chartridge slowly lost wickets due to some great bowling by T Simmons, J Holton, M Jordan, A Bitici and K Pike (who was unlucky enough to not take a wicket after figures of 5 overs, 1 maiden for just 13 runs.)

Chartridge where dismissed after just 29 overs for a score of 59
