Bank Holiday Monday

31 Aug 2010

Knebworth Cricket Club vs Roving Reporters - 30th August 2010

The bank holiday Monday game against Knebworth CC took place on a clear but cold day at Knebworth Park, and saw John Rogan captain the side for the first time this season, with J Jenkins stepping down from the role for the day.

For the first time in 15 games Roving Reporters lost the toss, (good start Rogan!) and were asked to field first.

The batsman of Knebworth came out laughing as they heard that Paul Lewis was to open the bowling, and after an over of 6 mixed balls, C Jones came on from the other end to bowl his first over and collect two wickets from the last two balls. Cj's next over started with the hat-trick ball.  As the team gathered around the young batsmen, he smashed to Danny Mills fielding close who shut his eyes, turned his head in fear, and dropped the chance.

After 16 overs Knebworth Park were 32 for 4 after A Sergeant was caught at mid off by T Rowlands after mis connecting a gift bowled by J Pike. J Inman carried on batting throughout, and was finally dispatched by J Jenkins on 61 leaving Knebworth Park 138 for 7 after 35 overs. The Knebworth batting came to a close on 157 all out with on over left of the 40 overs allocated. C Jones finishing with good figures of 6 overs, 3 maidens, 2 wickets for only 4 runs. J Jenkins also picked up two wickets but for 48 runs. J Pike finished with figures of 8 overs for 32 with 4 wickets and also 3 catches, T Rowlands also picked up 2 catches.

Roving Reporters went into bat after, once again, a wonderful tea supplied by the Knebworth Tea Ladies. S Wiggins (future groom) and M Watson opened the batting, and when Mark Watson finally got off the mark it was with a huge 6 which landed over the Knebworth pavilion and into the car park. M Watson was soon dispatched after being run out running a third run (unheard of). K Pike came in to hit 5 runs (4 punched 'literally!' to deep square) before he was bowled by A Sergeant. Stuart Wiggins and Tom Rowlands put on a partnership of 44 before S Wiggins was bowled for 21 off 60 balls (Test Match). Terry Miles was to enter and finish off the game (with T Rowlands and J Rogan falling around him) with C Jones, who hit a final 4 to win the game after just 34.2 overs. This game witnessed an amazing (now known as) the '
TerryScoop' which brought the team one run shy of victory.

Roving Reporters finished on 160 for 5 taking them to 6 successive matches without a loss since tour.
