The Passing of a Club Legend - Roy Watts

04 Jun 2014

We have some very sad news to report about club stalwart and legend Roy Watts, who sadly passed away last week.

Many of our players and opponents, past and present, will remember Roy for his slow right-arm bowling and hundreds of wickets taken across many years for Roving Reporters, along with his presence as a loyal spectator and follower of the club in the years since his retirement from cricket.

Roy Watts made his debut for RRCC on 11th May 1975 and played a total of 647 matches for the club. He took an incredible 1564 wickets at an average of 12.68 runs with his best figures of 8 for 52 in a 1981 fixture against Royal Oak. He also scored 1838 runs with a top score of 41 and held 203 catches.

Roy will be missed by all and Roving Reporters Cricket Club would like to extend our condolences to Roy's family and friends at this time. We will post news on the funeral arrangements in the coming days.

A minute's silence was held in Roy's memory at the fixture at Hemel Hempstead Cricket Club on Sunday. We will continue to honour Roy's contribution to the club, and his friendship, across the course of this season and beyond.
