Captain Pike Surrenders The Rashes

03 Aug 2015

RRs succumbed to a heavy defeat at the hands of Dereham CC, as captain Jake Pike skippered his third unsuccessful attempt at landing the sought after Rashes trophy.

Reporters started strongly, with Steve Watson dominating an opening stand of 90 with Paul Lewis. With Watson dismissed for a career best 29 and Lewis well caught for a streaky 56, the innings faltered somewhat due to frequent loss of wickets. However, some heavy late hitting from Moffat and Mills took RRs to 216 off their 45 overs.

After (another) team talk from Captain Pike, RRs took the field to begin the defence of the total. It soon became clear it would be a difficult defence as the young opener Harbour set about the bowling with relish. At the other end 'Buzz' Irons anchored the reply, although escaped dismissal when Mark Watson dropped a difficult one handed chance to his right at first slip.

Harbour eventually retired after reaching three figures, however the damage continued to be wrought on the Reporters bowling with only a couple a wickets bought by Captain Pike off his own bowling late on. By then the Rashes were long gone, as Dereham comfortably reached their target with time to spare.
