RRs Winning Start

27 Apr 2016

The 2016 season got off to a winning start with a tense victory off the last ball against Hertingfordbury. Our opponents won the toss and posted 195-8 off 40 overs. RRs bowled tightly with Tom Simmons the pick of the bowlers with 3-13. Everyone put in the hard yards in the cold fielding conditions - special mention to Charlie Drury and Tom Simmons for covering a lot of yards, and Nick Anson for his efforts behind the stumps.

In reply, Dave Simmons and Paul Lewis put on 108 for the first wicket, however, once the first wicket fell, further dismissals followed at regular intervals - including Tom Simmons being bowled by a beauty to become a first victim in adult cricket for the young bowler. Paul Lewis anchored the innings well in posting an unbeaten century, and with the assistance of some scampering between the wickets at the end we made it home off the final delivery.

All in all a great game of cricket played in great spirit. Credit must also go to Hertingfordbury for the quality of the pitch (despite John Lewis doing his best Shahid Afridi impression) - very good indeed for April!
