Broxbourne Prevail in Low Scoring Contest
14 May 2012
Following a severely weather impacted start to the season, RRs succumbed to defeat in their first game of the season against Broxbourne at Mill Lane. After winning the toss Broxbourne decided to bat first, but despite wickets falling at regular intervals on a slow, low pitch, they managed to post a competitive total of 146. Wickets were shared around, with Simmo and gritty northern seam bowler Lewis picking up three each and Aussie spin hero Steve Watson chipping in with two. Following a tea interval which consisted of witnessing Manchester City somehow win the Premiership, RRs went out to bat in the evening sunshine full of hope and promise. However, as typifies an early season RRs run chase, most batsman struggled on a difficult pitch as the team collapsed to 106 all out. CJ and Rocky stood out with the bat, but Vann bowled with unerring accuracy to make scoring difficult, eventually picking up five wickets. Role on Chipperfield Clarendon
