RRs slipped to defeat in the opening game of the season with a customary slow April start with the bat. After a spirited display with the ball - including two wickets apiece from Simmons Senior and Steve 'Warney' Watson - plus some sharp fielding, Reporters could not cope with a devastating four over spell from Rider which saw them collapse from 46 for 1 to 63 for 5. Despite some lusty lower order hitting from Terry Miles (23) and John 'insert supermarket of choice as nickname here' Lewis (career best 24), the Reporters ended 34 runs short.
